Jersey #8: A Fine Choice!
.
.

In the first galactico era of Florentino Perez, he signed a Portuguese Wing Wizard (Luis Figo), a Brazilian goal-scoring monster (Ronaldo) and a French Playmaking maestro (Zidane). The 3 would complement a team that was being led by a player not known for any one particular characteristic, but for a combination of above-average skills accross the board and the inability to understand the idea of defeat (Raul). Together, the 4 ruled the world of football: dominating La Liga and winning the Champions League while casting in stone Real Madrid's greatness.
.
Luis Figo eventually had a falling out with the coaching staff that saw him leave for Inter where he has just hung up his boots. Ronaldo became the embodiment to the excesses of the Galactico era, resulting in his 'asylum status' in the Brazilian League and Raul continues to captain the squad but is haunted by criticism (many of them unfair and disrespectful) for the effects of time and age on his body that has resulted in sporadic and inconsistent performances. Zidane on the other hand, retired in front of the Bernabeu to a standing ovation with the absolute grace, dignity and respect of all Madridistas (nevermind his ill-fated walk of shame in the 2006 WC Final).
.
Of the 4 of Florentino's 2000-2006 Galacticos, it was Zidane who embodied most Florentino's one-word definition on the meaning of Real Madrid: Senorio. A sort-of gentlemanly, humble elegance that is coupled by an ability and talent so superior and unquestionable that results in a dominant lordli-ness over all around it. This was Zidane. Down to his very last day as a Madridista.
.
As we usher in the 2nd coming of the Galacticos... we find ourselves again with Florentino Perez bringing the greatest players from all over the world, from 3 very familiar places... Brazil, Portugal, and if today's rumors are to be believed... France. We find Florentino once again, bringing in a Wing Wizard (Cristiano Ronaldo) , a Goal-Scoring Monster (if as I've said, today's rumors are to be believed: Benzema) and an Attacking Midfield Maestro (Kaka). The 3 would once again complement a team being led by a player not known for any one particular characteristic, but for a combination of above-average skills accross the board and the inability to understand the idea of defeat (Higuain). Together, we Madirdistas are looking forward to see the 4 to rule world football: to restore our dominance in La Liga and Europe (over Barca and the hegemony of the English League) to once again cast in stone Real Madrid's greatness.
.
Of the 4 Galacticos of this coming era, it is Kaka who embodies most Florentino's one-word definition on the meaning of Real Madrid: Senorio. A sort-of gentlemanly, humble elegance that is coupled by an ability and talent so superior and unquestionable that results in a dominant lordli-ness over all around it. This is Kaka.
.
I have waited 3 years for this moment. Welcome home, crack!
